The 1851 Scottish Census provided the following information:
- The parish name
- Quoad Sacra Parish (a quoad sacra parish is one created and functioning for ecclesiastical purposes only)
- The Parliamentary Burgh
- The Royal Burgh
- Town or village name
- The name of street, place, or road, and the number of the house
- The full name of each person who abode
in the house on the night of 30th March 1851.
- The relationship of each person to the head of the family
- The marital condition of each person
- Age of each person
- Gender of each person
- The rank, profession, or occupation of each person
- Birthplace of each person
- Whether the person was blind, or deaf and dumb
